MEANING AND TYPES OF AQUATIC SPORT
Aquatics refer to any sporting activity that is performed in water .These include
Swimming, diving scuba, water polo, canoeing, sailing fishing boat regatta,
Facilities here mean those structures that are used for swimming that cannot be moved from place to place e g. the swimming pool except portable pools
 The streams
 The lakes.
 The rivers
 The diving board
 The chlorinating machine
 The changing rooms
 The toilet
 The shower rooms.

Equipment; this refers to materials and items used for swimming that are movable and expendable such as;
• the swimming suits or trunks
• the head gear (for women)

SAFETY MEASURE IN AQUATIC SPORTS
• Swimmers should take a shower before swimming to adjust the body to the water temperature
• Never use the pool where there is no life guard
• Beginners should start from the shallow end of the pool
• Learners should obey and follow instructions
• There should be no running around to avoid slip and fall
• Avoid the use of ornaments such as neck lace
• No rough play such as pushing people into water
• There should be proper warm up to stimulate the body for vigorous actions in the water

SKILLS IN AQUATIC SPORT
These are the skills in swimming
Adjustment and confidence gaining in water;
Having good time and fun in water.
Propulsion methods
Buoyancy----This means ability to float in water with confidence.
The arm action. The action is an alternative arm movement

MEANING OF FIRST AID AND SAFETY EDUCATION
First aid is an immediate and temporary care (assistance) given to an injured person or person who falls sick before the arrival of a doctor or before he is taken to the hospital.

A first aid box/bag contains all the kits that are needed for first aid care and emergency.

Meaning of sewage and refuse
Refuse refers to all solid wastes such as pieces of paper leaves, garbage, ashes and dead animals while sewage refers to liquid wastes such as urine, kitchen wastes, and water from laundry

Methods of Sewage Disposal

Advantage: It is cheap to water system

Advantage: Local technology can be used
Disadvantages: If not properly managed surrounding air may be polluted

An excavated or land depression area is needed wherein refuse garbage are thrown and covered up with solid or dust.
Advantage: Help to reclaim waste land
Does not require high technology
It is not expensive
Disadvantage: Land to be used may be difficult to come by

Chemically a molecule of water is composed of two hydrogen atom and one oxygen atom held together by covalent bounds. Water is precious to man’s existence as it is needed in agriculture, sports, industry and domestic affair. Water may be hard or soft. Hard water is not good economically as more soap is needed to form lather. When water is free from minerals salt such as water is called soft water as it dissolves soap quickly.

SOURCES OF WATER SUPPLY
The two major sources of water to man:
- Surface water supplies
- Ground water supplies
Surface water supply are abundant easy accessible. They are however prone to pollution from human transport, industrial, agricultural and domestic waste.

MEANING OF PHYSICAL FITNESS
Physical fitness is the ability of an individual to perform his daily work well without feeling too tired and still have reserve energy.
The definition of health by the World Health Organization (WHO) which states that, Health is a state of complete physical and mental, and social well-being and not the mere absence of diseases and infirmity.

A person is said to be totally fit when he possesses certain attributes. He is said to be totally fit.

Outdoor activities are activities that are performed outside or in the open such as parks, game reserves, beach and sports field.
