ST. PAUL’S TEACHING TO THE CORINTHIANS ON CHRISTIAN GIVING (2 Corinthians 9:1-15)
The church in Corinth had previously agreed to make some donations for the saints. St. Paul’s epistle to them was to remind them of this promise, given the fact that he had already boasted to the Macedonians, informing them that Achaia had been ready with their donation since the previous year and this motivated most of them. In view of this, Paul felt it necessary to send an advanced party to them to remind them to get their gifts ready so that when he came with the Macedonians, his boasting will not be seen as an empty one.
Paul further used the opportunity to admonish them and Christians as a whole on the need to give voluntarily and cheerfully according to their capability.
Paul used this epistle to advise all Christians that giving is a form of righteousness. Grace would abound for the cheerful giver and God would provide for his needs so that he would have enough to give for all good works. Of course, the prayer of the recipient would bring grace to the giver and the name of the Lord would be highly exalted for making people obey His words of sharing with the needy.

VARIOUS WAYS CHRISTIANS CAN EXPRESS THE SPIRIT OF GIVING
(1) Donating money to meet the needs of the less privileged people – the widows, the aged, the disabled etc.
(2) Visiting and giving money to the motherless babies’ homes, donating to hospitals to take care of patients
(3) Donating money to churches in support of evangelism
(4) Donating money for maintaining and executing projects in churches
(5) Donating one’s time and energy by serving in some of the voluntary organizations such as Red Cross, joining the choir, usher, Sunday school teachers etc.
